Cow manure decomposition
Konstantinos Kourtidis
Demokritus University of Thrace, Xanthi, Greece
Cow manure covered in snow. The manure decomposes from bacteria, and its temperature raises. Hence, the recently fallen snow (10-15 cm in the previous 2-3 days) has melted and due to the low air temperatures (the photo was taken at around 18:00 with temperatures around zero deg Celcius) smoke cloud is visible. The photo was taken at the village of Volakas, some 35 km from Drama, NE Greece.
