Glacier Blanc . . . .
Flowing down from the most meridional 4000 metre peak of the Alps, Glacier Blanc forms a wide plateau among the granite peaks before it takes a right turn and plunges into the valley below. In the summer of 2018 alone, the thin terminal tongue has retreated 137 metres. At higher elevations, the thinning glacier reveals steep, bare rocks so that the access route to the ice is often retraced.
