The tragedy of melting snow

Avatar

by Ekaterina Smirnova

As an artists I am focusing on environmental subjects. I explore snow, as it is one of the natural phenomena, that directly reflects the climate change. During my art residency in Sapporo, Japan this year I created a series of short films, capturing the tragedy of melting snow. This particular chunk of snow was collected at the side of a road. When it melts and dries on my watercolor paper it leaves a nasty residue of dirt, pollution and salts used to melt snow in any contemporary city.
