Coastal Soil Profil Erosion
The present form and the soil of the peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst is the result of the last ice age and the ongoing process of erosion and sedimentation in its coastal areas.
The western cliff coasts of the islands Fishland and Altdarß are suspended under the prevailing west and northwest winds and aborted by wind, rain, frost and ocean waves, especially during storm surges. The terminating material is transported northward from the sea and washed up on the northern shores of the islands again.
