Perplexing purple - The Lüneburg Heath

The Lüneburg Heath ( Heide in German ) is a nature reserve adjacent to the north German town Lüneburg. The Heath consists of a series of end moraines from glaciers of the Saalian glaciation( 230,00-130,000 years ago). The open areas are covered with common heather ( Calluna vulgaris ).
