Janggu Lungba hot spring on a steep cliffside, in Xizang (Tibet)
by Ping Zhao
The Janggu Lungba Hot Spring is located in the Gangdise Mountains on the Qinghai–Xizang Plateau at an elevation of 5,120 meters above sea level. More than 20 spring vents are distributed along a steep cliffside. The maximum temperature at the spring outlets reaches 85.4°C. The spring water is of the NaHCO₃ type, with the SiO₂ concentration of 95.0 ppm, and the estimated temperature of the geothermal reservoir exceeds 110°C at depth. The helium isotope ratio of the hot spring gases is 0.54 Rc/Ra, indicating that the gases are dominated by crust-derived helium with a small contribution of mantle-derived helium.
