Cape Verde | Rainy season at Santiago Island
by Martin Mergili, University of Graz, Graz, Austria
Panoramic view from the mountain pass crossing the Serra Malagueta across the plateau of Santa Catarina in S direction. The partly eroded cone of Monte Jagau (695 m) in the centre of the scene reminds of the island's volcanic past. The lush green of the vegetation in the hills of Santiago only persists for few months each year. After the short rainy season, colours quickly turn to yellowish and brownish in October or November, and remain so until the following August.
