- A splendid view of a scientific character. It shows the pond of the collected drilling fluid (viscous liquid). In fact, there are many important reasons to take the usage of drilling fluid in borehole drilling into account. It can be summarized as the following ones:
- Remove any undesirable parts of cuttings (or drilled layers), because of drilling, there are many small and fine parts of rocky cuttings, that can strike and prohibit the continuation of drilling processes.
- Cool and lubricate the drilling bit and the drilling string, due to the generated heat, that is resulted in the duration of the drilling process by the fraction between rocky layers and these parts of the drilling machine.
- Control subsurface pressures, by making the hydrostatic pressure of drilling fluid equal to pressures of layers in case of increasing the depths, as by increasing the depths, the pressures increase gradually, by this processes, we can prevent the destruction of the layers of the borehole.
- Promote and energize the stability of the borehole, because the appearance of some undesirable gases may make the borehole to fill down, so the drilling fluid is used in a way to neutralizing the pressures.
- Suspend the undesirable parts of rocky cuttings, to make them flow upon the surface of the drilling fluid to get rid of them away, in a way to prevent them from depositing in the bottom of the borehole.
- Support the partial weight of the drilling bit or the drilling string, because when the drilling bit or the drilling string is soaked in a viscous liquid or fluid such as the drilling fluid the weight of these parts will decrease, so by this method we can facilitate the drilling processes.
- knowing a piece of geological information about the drilled layers in the borehole, by taking a sample from collected rocky cuttings parts to test them to know more information about drilled layers to determine then reach the desired layer to stop drilling.
- Clean up the drilling bit or drilling string from very fine materials that affect negatively on the drilling processes, by hiding in the very hollow finer parts in the drilling bit.
