Active Erosion
by Jennifer Ziesch, State Authority for Mining, Energy and Geology, Hannover, Germany
Water action erodes the cliffs of the Australian coast. The rock formation, which consists of limestone, is shaped by a combination of erosion by sea and weathering. The coast of the Otway Basin in Australia is particularly affected by strong erosion up to two centimeters per year. This photo shows a fresh landslide of the cliff.
