Sacramento Valley haze during abnormally warm winter in California
This photo was taken during a research flight for the Alpha Jet Atmospheric eXperiment (AJAX), which is a collaboration between NASA Ames Research Center in the Silicon Valley of California and H211, LCC. I took this picture from the backseat of the Alpha Jet as we made spiral measurements of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and meteorological conditions in the Sacramento Valley during a hazy and abnormally warm winter day (January 2018). Our research pods, which house our GHG instrument, can be seen in the bottom left corner of the photo. This picture beautifully captures the farm fields that were below us shimmering in the sunlight, with a glimpse of the eroded volcanic lava domes, called the Sutter Buttes, seen in the distance.
