Stratovolcanic Morphology of Pico Island

Viewed from an inter-island flight, the Pico stratovolcano rises above a layer of clouds, revealing the geometry of successive eruptions, where alternating layers of lava and pyroclastic material record a history of volcanic activity and erosion in the Azores.
