Medellín | Landslide in the Quebrada Doña María
by Martin Mergili, University of Graz, Graz, Austria
This landslide near Medellín happened on 13 July 2022, resulting in two fatalities. Deeply weathered, probably water-saturated residual rock was mobilized and converted into a flow-type movement, stopping a short way downstream after having reached the river. There must have been some short-term damming, but no major dam break flood was noted. After the main event, there was at least one secondary landslide.
