Light on the outcrop
by Doris Wendt
The photo was taken at the start of my research project that investigates groundwater droughts in man-modified groundwater systems. The beautiful outcrop of the chalk aquifer shows the variation in depth. Knowing that this aquifer is one of the most productive aquifers in the UK, it is intensely used for drinking water supply. Little is known about feedback processes of groundwater use, which urges more research understanding the anthropogenic effects to the hydrological cycle.
