Marooned barnacle in Aberlady Bay
This barnacle (Semibalanus balanoides) stubbornly clings to a clam shell after its companion was dislodged from its support. Suspension feeders are particularly sensitive to environmental change, and could be of incredible value in tracking ecosystem responses to sea surface temperature and heavy metal pollution.
