Tongue of a small giant
by Antonello Provenzale, Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources, Pisa, Italy
The debris-covered Miage glacier in Val Veny (Aosta Valley, Italy), in a panoramic image obtained by stitching several pictures. The Miage glacier has been protected by the thick debris cover and it has been stable for the last few decades, as shown by the trees growing on its frontal and lateral moraines. Many small glacial lakes are formed at the edge of the glacier.
