A Kelimutu Sunrise
by Danielle Su
The three coloured Kelimutu Crater Lakes are of great significance to both geologists and the local people. The colours of the lakes are in constant flux and change between turquoise, emerald green and red. This is unique due to the crater lakes being part of the same volcano and the colour changes have been attributed to the different minerals in each of the lakes and their reactions to volcanic gas.
