Spider web
by Alicia Morugán, Miguel Hernández University, Elche, Spain
Australia has some highly venomous spiders, including the notorious Sydney funnel-web, its relatives in the Atrax genus, and redback spiders, whose bites can be deadly, but the venom of many common Australian spiders is not considered very toxic. Though Australia is infamous for venomous spiders, scientists report you are more likely to die of a bee sting than a spider bite on Australian shores. Records reveal no one has died from a spider bite since 1981.
