Mount Fuji sunset (as seen from Tokyo Government building, Shinjuku)
by Iain Willis
This picture was taken as sunset from the top floor of the Government building in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It's vary rare to be able to see Fujj from the centre of the Tokyo and is only possible on very clear, winter days, such as when this picture was taken.
Having lived in Japan for 2 years and also recently submitting my PhD on the assessment of vulnerable populations around volcanoes, the juxtaposition in this picture of one of the most populous cities in the world with the 4000m volcano looming in the background has strong personal resonance.
