Fire warning on Tennyson Down
During a long hot summer in the UK, drought issues and the risk of wildfire led to official warnings being posted on access gates to public grasslands, like Tennyson Down on the Isle of Wight (managed by the National Trust). This was following a series of devastating fires started by disposable barbecues, rubbish and vehicle fires that destroyed thousands of hectares of environmentally precious landscape, and resulted in a temporary ban on the sale of disposable barbecues by the UK government (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0jlyqdj6geo).
