Cross-bedded sandstone of the Taref Formation, Western Desert, Egypt
by Ahmed-M- Mohy, Egyption, Damanhour, Egypt
Outcrop of cross-bedded sandstone belonging to the Taref Formation in the Western Desert of Egypt (El Kharga Oasis area). The image shows well-developed planar cross-bedding structures, indicating deposition in a high-energy fluvial or aeolian environment. The pen in the center provides a scale reference. The inclined laminae reflect paleocurrent directions and sediment transport processes during the Late Cretaceous.
