Chasing Totality Through the Clouds – The Great North American Eclipse (April 8, 2024)

April 8, 2024, was a challenging day for eclipse chasers across Southern Ontario, as a thick overcast threatened to obscure one of nature’s most breathtaking events. While many were left disappointed under a sky of unbroken clouds, I turned to weather satellite data and high-resolution model products to find the best possible viewing location. These forecasts indicated a small break near Fort Erie, Ontario, and with that knowledge, I set out to capture this rare sequence of eclipse phases—including the moment of totality.
Against the odds, this image stands as a testament to the power of meteorological science and precise forecasting, proving that with the right tools, even the most elusive celestial events can be witnessed and preserved.
