Caves´frozen breath high in Tatras

Miniature ice crystals form as the warm humid cave air enters the outside frozen winter land leaving a crystal trail behind. Cavers searching for new caves are on a hunt for such trails. The average air temperature in the region plays an important role. In this part of Vysoké Tatry Mts. average temperature is about 4 - 5 °C, and so is the cave temperature year-round. To be able to see such crystal trails the outside temperature must decrease significantly. Today, the cavers were lucky, with -10°C and not a lot of snow they were able to see many places where the cave air sweeps outside.
