Luxurious black ash forest
by Alexandre Florent Nolin, University of Québec, Canada
This shot was taken in September 2018 in sub-arctic Quebec (Canada). On the shores of Lake Duparquet, black ash (Fraxinus nigra Marsh.) boreal forests looks almost tropical at the end of the summer. The prominant buttress of these trees, striped with yellow lines of pollen deposits, reveal periodical flooding. The coarse organic soil is covered by the bead fern (Onoclea sensibilis).
