Green reload after the bushfires
by Maria Hernandez-Soriano, KU Leuven, Heverlee, Belgium
Fire has encouraged the growth of grassland and other plant species after a fire event in the hot, dry summer of Margaret River, Western Australia. Like an open-air biochar event, a burst of green heals the fire-ravaged land. Fire events are an essential part of the ecology of Australia and certain native flora have evolved to rely on bushfires as a means of reproduction.
