Admonishing natural beauty

Not only embodies the glacial lake Jökulsárlón in southeast Iceland one of Icelands natural wonders, it is also a reminder of global change. Formed by the retreating glacier Breiðamerkurjökull only ~80 years ago, the lake grew in the first half of its life slowly to about 8 km² around the beginning of industrialization. Due to the intensified melting of the glacier ever since, the lake today already more than doubled its size to ~18 km², and is with ~250 m depth, the deepest lake in Iceland.
