Vegetable garden at 2600m in the Alps

by Federico Grazzini

Climate is warming very rapidly at higher elevation with important implication on hydrology, water management and mountain ecosystem. The keeper of Refuge PIO XI , built on a glacial moraine in the Vallelunga, in the Italian Alps on the border with Austria, showed me that where, until the '80 even grass was not growing during summer, now they run a vegetable garden with different kind of salads sufficient for his family.
