Persuasive calmness of headwater streams

by Nilay Dogulu, METU, Ankara, Turkey

Headwater streams are important sources of water for maintaining baseflow in rivers. Knowledge on hydrology of headwater catchments is therefore essential to understand recharge of subsurface water stores and flow paths. This photo was taken along the Bettmerhorn-Eggishorn hike, near the Märjelensee. It shows one of the many small headwaters feeding Märjelensee, a periglacial lake on the eastern side of the Aletsch Glacier.
