Snæfellsjökull - Volcano in West Iceland
by Wolfgang Fraedrich, Hamburg, Germany
Snæfellsjökull is a 1446 m high stratovolcano in the west of Iceland on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The summit area of the volcano is dominated by a caldera, which is covered by a glacier. The mostly explosive erupting volcano had its last eruption about 1800 years ago. The picture is taken from the south.
