Rocky outcrops of limestone in a natural landscape in Apulia, Italy

The sight of these limestone outcrops is becoming more and more rare, as many of these lands are being converted into farmland by grinding of the rocks ("frantumazione"), which improves soil fertility for a short period, but ultimately deteriorates ecosystem services and degrades the land.
