Flood on the Planina intermittent lake
by Cyril Mayaud, Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU, Postojna, Slovenia
The Planina polje belong to the Classical Karst and is one of its most striking features. During the summer, the 8km2 wide polje is totaly dry and mostly used as pastry field. Oppositely due to the limited drainage capacity of the karst ponors, it can become a large lake during fall or spring depending on the precipitation intensity or snow melt.
