Microphotograph and SEM-AsB image of a brachiopod shell from the Toolse phosphorite deposit, Estonia.
The layers correspond to different recrystallisation of the initial shell material (e.g., organic laminae and shell structure) by secondary phosphatisation during the diagenesis.
