On the Volcano's Precipice
by Richard Ybanez, University of the Philippines, Quezon City, Philippines
Taken one year after the 2020 Taal Eruption, this image features scientists on Taal Volcano Island's main crater ridge. In the background, the Taal's Main Crater Lake is prominently colored blue-green. Steaming is also visible in the distance. Within the main crater and on the ridge itself, deep gullies have developed after one year of rainfall, creating a very surreal and barren landscape.
