by Cyril Mayaud, Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU, Postojna, Slovenia
This picture was taken at the beginning the hiking trail going through the famous Cirque de Mourèze, which is located about 40 km westward from the city Montpellier (France). The place is very well known for its very scenic pinacles made of dolomite and is classified as a protected area. The rocks are assumed to be 160 millions years old and have been shapped y a combination of several erosional processes, giving to the landscape this particular atmosphere.
