Great Sanddunes and beyond
The highest sanddunes of North America rise at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Range in the Northeast of the San Luis Valley. The sandunes emerge from the sediments of an long gone lake in the headwaters of the Rio Grande and accumulate beneath the mountains.
