
Wave pattern in rock layers
This pebble came from a beach in south Devon, UK, and is about 6 cm long. The layers show a pattern reminiscent of shear instability. The reverse of the pebble shows a large amplitude wave but without the "crest" feature on the face shown in the photograph.
