Flinders Ranges Sunset
by John Counts, University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland
After a long day of fieldwork measuring sections in Australia's Flinders Ranges, the late afternoon sun hits the western side of Wilpena Pound, a large uplifted syncline. The strata seen here are late Neoproterozoic in age, and host the famous Ediacaran faunal assemblage, one of Earth's earliest multicellular animal communities.
