Facing the Atlantic, at Vale Figueiras beach
by Catarina Guerreiro, University of Bremen, Bremen, Germany
Vale Figueiras beach is a beautiful and still rather unexplored area of the SW Coast of Portugal, belonging to one of the better exposed sectors of the SW Iberian Variscan Chain: Costa Vicentina. Here, coastal cliffs are largely made of schist rocks presenting a wide variety of geological structures, formed either in ductile or fragile deformation regimes.
