Configuring spatial patterns
This photo was taken in Lago Cisnes, on the Eastern side of the South Patagonia Icefield, Chilean Patagonia. The spatial configuration of the Andes range and its interaction with the westerlies, configure the landscapes of Patagonia. As a consequence of the orographic effect, the east is relative dryness and less cloudy than the west. Despite this conditions, ice melt from the South Patagonia Icefield contributes to the existence of many rivers and lakes, any of which are ecosystems that support life.
