Yellowstone River Storm
by Rebecca Emerton, University of Reading / ECMWF
In the vast landscape of Yellowstone National Park, water takes many forms - the rain and hail from this mountain storm will make its way into the 1000 rivers and streams, over hundreds of waterfalls and perhaps into one of the 600 lakes and ponds. Or, it may seep into the ground to be superheated by the Yellowstone volcano and rise again to the surface in the form of geysers and hotpsrings. Water in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem not only provides life to plants, wildlife and humans alike, but creates one of the most unique and breathtaking landscapes on Earth.
