Mooring deployment lomography
by Florian Greil, Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven, Germany
In the early morning, long before breakfast, a small group of scientists deployed a mooring with the help of the boatsman. As the ship has no A-frame or a capstan nearby, we improvised with a crane of 10m length. On the photo you see an accoustic current profiler (ADCP) and a double releaser hanging on the left rope and a conductivity-temperature-density-logger (CTD) on the right one.
I put my camera on the ground and let it a shoot a snapshot every 30s to get a time series of our work. As expected, only a few nice photos resulted, most of them were just the crane with a bit of rope as we have been kneening on board, testing the instruments and thus out of focus of the camera.
