Erosion and suspension
by Romain Hemelsdael, CRPG, Nancy, France
Bottomset beds from the Kerinitis Gilbert-type delta. The Pleistocene delta is now uplifting along the active southern margin of the Corinth rift (Greece). Finely laminated silts drap the pebbles and cobbles of the underlying bed. In bottomset gravity-driven conglomerates originated from the unstable delta front. Deposition of highly erosive conglomerates are followed by suspension fall-out. This photo is part of an remarkable outcrop displaying the variety of depositional processes involved in bottomset beds.
