by Mira Tammelin, University of Turku, Turku, Finland
The extremely beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park is located within the mountainous karst area in Central Croatia. It consists of small lakes that are sourrounded by a lush green forest. The lakes are connected to eachother via travertine dams and waterfalls. The water is crystal clear and bustling with life.
