Frosted Globe
The photo above shows a frosted bubble that's resting on an elevated surface, just above the ground, outside of the observatory in Rimavska Sobota, Slovakia. It’s approximately 1 in (2.5 cm) in diameter and was created from water, detergent and sugar. This bubble became frosted in a little more than 7 minutes. The air temperature at the time was 19 F (-8 C), but the ground temperature was likely several degrees colder. There was sufficient water vapor in the cold air to coat the bubble in frost crystals –- like frost on a window pane. I noticed that this frost painted the bubble from the bottom up. Photo taken on the morning of February 5, 2014. http://epod.usra.edu/blog/2014/03/frosted-globe.html
