The magical caves of Tlemcen

by Yasmina Bouderba, CRAAG, Algiers, Algeria

This is a huge cavity in the limestone massif of Ain Fezza (Tlemcen, Algeria). This geological curiosity is located 1143 m above sea level and date from about 65,000 years. Ain Fezza Caves are embedded in a set of Jurassic giving a range of karst forms. On this photo we can see stalagmites and stalactites formed over centuries and whose shapes evoke human figures, landscapes and other objects which we guess nature. We can also admire the stalactites with colorful reliefs which present a relic of inverted desert.
