Sands geometries
by Silvia Inzoli, Università degli Studi di Milano, Milano, Italy
Outcrop (4.5 m x 3 m) in a disused quarry site in Senna Lodigiana (LO), located in the central portion of the Quaternary Po foreland basin, which formed during and after Plio-Pleistocene thrust-folding and uplift of Middle–Upper Pleistocene alluvial terraces sitting above Upper Pliocene–Middle Pleistocene marine sediments.
In this picture, from bottom to top: thin-bedded and rippled fine sands; laminated silts and clays with water expulsion structures; oblique laminated coarse sands; oblique laminated medium sands.
