Volcanic ash

Scanning electron microscope image of volcanic ash from the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland. The sample was collected in Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland and imaged under the CamScan 2300 MV at the Steinmann-Institute, University of Bonn. Bottom of the image is 300 μm wide. Both, fine and coarse particles (mostly volcanic glass, plagioclase and clinopyroxene) are present.
