Polarized light photomicrograph of a thin section of Ocean Jasper.
Ocean Jasper is an orbicular silicified rhyolite (volcanic rock) from Madagascar. The photomicrograph is a close-up of impinging spherulitic orbs showing their radiating texture of fibrous chalcedony their opaque-rich cores. Just a 4 mm across.
