Where Desert Air Meets the Red Sea Horizon
by Vibhaw Shrivastava, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel
Across the still waters of the Gulf of Aqaba, the desert breathes into the sky. Distant mountains emerge through remarkably clear air; their contours are sharpened by the absence of haze in this arid landscape. Above them, soft clouds gather, fleeting signatures of heat rising from sun-scorched land into cooler layers above. In this quiet meeting of sea, land, and atmosphere, invisible atmospheric processes shape what we see: light travels farther, boundaries dissolve, and the vastness of Earth’s interconnected systems becomes momentarily visible.
