the Maspalomas Dunes, where sand meets the sea
by Qiang Li, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen, Deutschland
This is an aerial view of the Maspalomas Dunes in Gran Canaria, where the sand comes from mainly erosion of volcanic rocks and a small episodic contribution of Saharan dust. The dunes unfold like golden waves sculpted by wind with soft ridges rolling toward the ocean, where sand and surf meet in a shimmering embrace.
