Glacial polished rocks
The retreat of the Mesule Glacier exposed perfectly polished outcrops. The rock surface is so finely polished that sunlight is reflected creating surreal scenarios when the sun is low on the horizon. In the past twenty years these outcrops have been the object of several studies: the polished surfaces provide an incomparable view of ductile and brittle deformation structures developed during the alpine orogeny. The area is recognised as a true paradise for structural geologists.
